Artist Statement
Nurturing comes in many forms like cooking foods that nurture our body, taking care of a loved one, tending a garden. It’s a powerful yet gentle gesture that goes beyond the now, it buries itself deep into our heart and memories. It is with respect and awe of this beautiful act that I seek to create a dialogue between the memory of nurturing and being the lucky recipient of the one nurtured.
The emotion and commonality across my body of work is inspired by my memories of being nurtured during my life. The snapshots of my memories include my mother nurturing plants and flowers, indirectly nurturing me to the deepest level. My father, nurturing me through art and creativity. Directed by memories of being loved and feeling protected, my pieces are layered with rich colors, movement and a visual representation of love.
Ideally, my work aspires to invoke deep memories of childhood exploration, feeling safe with family, trust and innocence. I hope to create a conversation between my work and the viewer. My work incorporates vivid colors, abstracted florals, organic shapes reminiscent of trees and unusualness along with shapes and mark making that reveals my hand.
About the artist
Jaime Haney was born in Indiana. A modest but filled with love childhood encouraged her to explore and create with what was around her. Playing in the woods and in her mother’s gardens are her most treasured memories as well as riding bikes with her parents through beautiful neighborhoods.
As a young adult, she married and moved to the country in Kentucky and then back to Indiana where woods and nature were the forefront of the landscape. She worked as a graphic designer until the birth of her son and it was a few years later that she discovered a love for painting. Today, Jaime tends many gardens around her home and art studio. Always inspired by the beauty of what’s growing, she paints her interpretation of nurturing.
